360 FEEDBACK TO IMPROVE EQ? YOU BET!
The 360° feedback process provides information about strengths and areas for development, but can it be used as a method for improving emotional intelligence? If so, how?
First and foremost, emotional intelligence requires you to understand yourself as well as your impact on other people. The definition that I put forth in my books on emotional intelligence is "understanding yourself and your impact on others so that you can fully live your intentions or values."
Therefore, the 360° assessment process aligns completely with my definition of emotional intelligence. The 360° assessment process enables us to understand ourselves and it also illuminates our understanding of the impact we have on others.
However, the connection between 360° assessment and emotional intelligence doesn't have to stop there.
By using the 7 Step model for improving emotional intelligence developed in The EQ Difference as a basis for the feedback discussion, not only is the person discovering what his behaviors are and the impact they have on others, he can also discover what is driving his behaviors and how his behaviors help or hinder his success.
